Preview: Dukes Head to Allegheny, Saint Francis

Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Duquesne University track and field teams are set for their final tune-up before the conference championships, competing Friday at the Marty Goldberg Gator Invitational, hosted by Allegheny, and Saturday at the Red Flash Open, hosted by Saint Francis.

DUKES EARN A FOURTH ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
  • Makayla Keck earned Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week after an early career-best javelin throw of 51.22 meters (168-0), improving her No. 2 standing on the Duquesne all-time list, which earned gold at the ECAC Championships. The mark ranks No. 32 nationally, 14th in the NCAA East Region and second in the Atlantic 10.
  • The honor is Duquesne's fourth women's Rookie of the Week selection this season, the second-most in program history (5 in 2005).
  • A-10 WEEKLY HONORS THIS SEASON
LAST TIME OUT
  • The Dukes shined at the ECAC/IC4A Outdoor Championships last weekend. Duquesne totaled 15 medals, including 10 gold, while the women's team placed third overall.
  • Junior Anna Rorrer was named ECAC Most Outstanding Performer after winning three gold medals, capturing titles in the 100-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles and running on the first-place 4x400-meter relay.
  • Gold medals also included the men's 4x400m, women's 4x800m relay, Rose Kuchera (women's triple jump), Nick Keller (men's 400m), Sylvia Kashak (women's 800m), Nadia Constantakis (women's pole vault), and Makayla Keck (women's javelin).

  • Duquesne owns 45 marks ranked among the top 10 on the Atlantic 10 performance list this season, highlighted by five conference leaders: Mary Grusky (javelin), Mia Pierce (discus), Christian Cupp (decathlon) and both the men's and women's 4x800m relays. Grusky and Makayla Keck rank among the top 15 in the NCAA East in javelin, while Cupp's decathlon score is 41st nationally.
