Washington, D.C. – Duquesne freshman
Mary Grusky was named Atlantic 10 Women's Track & Field Rookie of the Week following a record-setting performance in the javelin at the George Mason Dalton Ebanks Invitational. The Dukes have now earned the conference's rookie of the week honor in three consecutive weeks.
Grusky set a program record with a first-place throw of 51.75 meters (169-9). The mark leads the Atlantic 10 this season, as she and teammate
Makayla Keck (51.09m / 167-7) rank first and second in the conference and became the first two Dukes in program history to surpass 50 meters. The next closest non-Duquesne mark on the A-10 leaderboard is more than 15 feet behind at 47.10 meters (154-6).
Nationally, Grusky ranks No. 23 in the NCAA and sits among the top 10 in the East Region.
It marks the first time in program history that Duquesne has had three different student-athletes earn Rookie of the Week honors in three consecutive weeks. The Dukes have earned three straight weekly honors just once before, when Erica Moody did so on March 21, March 28 and April 4, 2005. The three weekly honors this season are tied for the second-most in program history (5 in 2005, 3 in 2001).
