Washington, D.C. – Duquesne freshman Sylvia Kashak was named Atlantic 10 Women's Track & Field Rookie of the Week following a standout outdoor season opener, the conference announced Wednesday.

Kashak continued her momentum from a record-setting indoor campaign at the Charlotte 49er Classic, winning the 800 meters in 2:10.11 — more than two seconds ahead of the field. The Jefferson Hills, Pa. product also placed second in the 1,500 meters in 4:29.94, a time that ranks fourth in program history, while her 800-meter mark moves her to fifth all-time at Duquesne.

Her performances currently rank No. 1 in the Atlantic 10 in the 800 meters and No. 2 in the 1,500 meters. Nationally, the times sit No. 37 in the 800 meters, while both marks rank among the top 30 in the NCAA East Region and top five in the Mid-Atlantic Region.

Kashak, who earned a silver medal with a program record in the 1,000 meters at the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships, has finished in the top two in all seven individual races to open her collegiate career, including four victories across the indoor and outdoor seasons.
