Preview: Track & Field at Carnegie Mellon Invitational

Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Duquesne University track and field teams remain in the Steel City this weekend, competing at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational at Gesling Stadium on Friday and Saturday.

DUQUESNE ENTRIES
LAST TIME OUT
  • Duquesne opened the outdoor season with three event wins at the Charlotte 49er Classic. Makayla Keck captured the javelin title with a program-record throw, while fellow freshman Mary Grusky also surpassed the previous school mark to finish second. Sylvia Kashak won the 800m and placed second in the 1500m, with both times ranking among the program's all-time top five. On the men's side, Nathaniel Woshner claimed the 3000m title, while Nick Keller recorded top-five marks in program history in both the 200m and 400m.

THIS SEASON IN THE RECORD BOOK
  • Men's Record Book
    • Freshman Nick Keller posted the fifth-fastest times in program history in both the 200m (21.50) and 400m (47.67) in his collegiate debut.
    Women's Record Book
    • Four freshmen entered the program's all-time top five in their outdoor debuts. Makayla Keck (49.41m) and Mary Grusky (47.08m) now rank first and second in javelin, respectively. Sylvia Kashak moved into the top five in both the 1500m (4th – 4:29.94) and 800m (5th – 2:10.11), while Melani Schmidt ranks fifth in the 200m (24.99).

A-10 HONORS
  • Sylvia Kashak earned Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honors after winning the 800m and placing second in the 1500m at the 49er Classic. Her times currently rank No. 1 in the A-10 in the 800m and No. 2 in the 1500m, while both marks sit among the top 30 in the NCAA East Region. Kashak has finished in the top two in all seven individual races to begin her collegiate career, including four victories.
