Box Score Cleveland, Ohio – The Duquesne University men's tennis team dropped its season opener at Cleveland State on Sunday evening, falling 6-1 at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion. With the slip, the Dukes fall to 0-1 on the season while the Vikings improve to 3-1.

Cleveland State won two of the three doubles matches to secure the point. Seniors Tamirlan Teberikov and Bode Vance dropped a 6-3 decision to Mikael Erler and Alan Matyjas in the first singles. In the second slot, graduate student Jin Dassanayake and sophomore Chris Cianciotti captured a 7-5 win over Austin Staiger and Andrew Zimcosky while sophomores Alfrendo Vogelaar and Keita Duclos fell by a 7-6 (2) count to Cole Chappell and Ty Rothchild in the final doubles.

In the singles competition, the Vikings took five of the six matches to secure the win. Teberikov was blanked 6-0, 6-0 by Lincoln Battle in the first position and Vogelaar dropped a 6-4, 6-1 decision to Carl Gedlitschka in the second slot. At the third singles, Duclos fell by a count of 2-6, 7-6 (7), 1-0 (5) to Zimcosky while Vance suffered a 6-3, 1-6, 4-6 loss to Chappell in the fourth position. Dassanayake registered a 6-3, 6-3 victory over JuandeDios Abboud at the fifth singles before Cianiotti was delt a 7-6 (2) defeat in the final position by Matyjas.

UP NEXT
The Dukes return to action when they begin a three-match homestand, hosting Ashland on Saturday, Feb. 3 at the Alpha Tennis & Fitness of Pittsburgh. Opening serve is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
