The Academic All-District® program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. To be eligible for the distinction, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, maintain at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (GPA), and compete in at least 90 percent of the institution's games or start at least 66 percent of the games.
Vogelaar, a native of The Hague, Netherlands, earned Academic All-District honors for the third consecutive season while pursuing his degree in accounting and maintaining a 3.77 GPA. He served as Duquesne's top performer this past season, compiling a 26-19 overall record. In singles competition, Vogelaar posted a 14-8 mark, including an 8-6 record during the spring campaign. He competed primarily at the No. 3 singles position, where he registered a 7-4 record and an impressive 3-1 mark against A-10 opponents. Earlier in the fall, the senior captured the B Flight singles championship at the YSU Invitational. He also finished the season strong, winning six of his final eight singles matches. In doubles play, the Netherlands native added 12 victories, including a 6-2 record at the No. 3 position.
In his first season on the Bluff, Lai earned Academic All-District honors for the first time at Duquesne and the second time in his collegiate career. The finance major maintained a 3.74 GPA while totaling 19 victories during the season, including the second-most doubles wins on the team with 11. Earlier in the year, Lai won five of six doubles matches during a strong stretch in early October and finished 2-2 against conference opponents. He competed primarily at the No. 2 doubles position, where he posted a 4-3 record. In singles play, the Taiwan native recorded eight victories, highlighted by a conference win over VCU. He also opened the season by winning four of his first five matches, including victories over Bucknell, Saint Francis, and Mercyhurst.
A native of Madrid, Spain, Lana earned Academic All-District honors for the second consecutive season while maintaining a 3.71 GPA and pursuing degrees in finance and computer science. The sophomore compiled 24 combined victories on the year, including 14 singles wins and 10 doubles triumphs. Competing exclusively at the No. 1 singles position, Lana posted a 2-2 record against Atlantic 10 opponents and won four of six singles matches earlier in the season, with each victory coming in straight sets. Lana also excelled in doubles competition, primarily playing at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. He recorded an impressive 5-1 mark at the top doubles spot and finished 2-1 in conference play. Closing the season on a high note, Lana won seven of his final nine doubles matches, highlighted by victories over Fordham, St. Bonaventure, Bucknell, and Niagara. Earlier this week, Lana was also named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference Second Team.
For the first time in his career, Alfano earned Academic All-District honors while pursuing his degree in finance and maintaining a 3.73 GPA. The Italy native recorded 14 total victories during the season, including 10 singles wins. During the spring campaign, Alfano competed across all three doubles positions and posted a 2-1 record at the No. 2 spot. He closed the year strong in doubles play, winning three of his final five matches, including victories over Ashland, Niagara, and Saint Francis. In singles competition, Alfano primarily competed between the No. 3 and No. 6 positions while registering a 2-1 mark against conference opponents. He also finished the season by winning five of his final eight singles matches, highlighted by conference victories over Fordham and St. Bonaventure.
