PITTSBURGH – The Duquesne University men's and women's track and field teams are set to begin the 2023 outdoor season at the Charlotte 49er Classic this Friday and Saturday.
"Coming off a successful indoor season, we are excited to get the outdoor season started," said Head Coach
Jeff Gibson. "We have a lot of good athletes returning from last year, along with some newcomers that we are expecting good things from."
This will be the first of eight events leading up to the Atlantic 10 Championships on May 6-7 in Amherst, Mass. for the Dukes.
On the women's side, Duquesne is on the heels of an indoor season that saw a number of personal bests fall. Sophomore sprinters
Hannah Seitzinger and
Amy Allen finished first and third, respectively in the 500m, and junior
Emily Brozeski won the pentathlon highlighting the A10 Championships at the end of February, where the Dukes finished in eighth place. Seitzinger went right back to work claiming gold at the ECAC/IC4A Championships on March 5 in the 500-meter to close out the indoor season. Last year in outdoor, Brozeski set the school record and finished atop the podium at the A10 Championships in the heptathlon, while Duquesne finished ninth.
Haley Hamilton is back for her sophomore season after earning a bronze medal in the 300-meter steeplechase in her first year in the Red and Blue.
Senior
Logan Williamson leads the men's team after finishing atop the podium in the triple jump at last year's A10 Championships. The Dukes won five gold medals at last year's A10 Championships, but just Williamson and half of the 4x100 team return to the squad for the upcoming spring. Sophomore
David Williams and junior
Ian Thrush are the returnees on the A10-champion 4X100-meter relay team.
The Duquesne rosters feature 13 freshmen on the women's team and 11 on the men's squad aiming to make an immediate impact.
