Dukes Win Four Golds, Total Seven Medals on Day One of ECAC/IC4A Championships

Nick Keller sets men's 400-meter program record

Piscataway, N.J. – The Duquesne University track and field teams combined for seven medals, including four golds, on Day One of the ECAC/IC4A Championships at Rutgers University. Freshman Nick Keller highlighted the performance with a program-record run in the men's 400 meters, while Keller, Sylvia Kashak (800m), Nadia Constantakis (pole vault) and Makayla Keck (javelin) each claimed event titles. The Duquesne women sit in third place with 51.5 points, while the men are 10th with 17 points through one day of competition. MEDALISTS
Freshman Nick Keller ran the fastest 400 meters in program history, clocking 47.17 to win gold and surpass David Williams' previous record of 47.22 set last season.

Sylvia Kashak continued her standout freshman campaign, winning the 800 meters in a personal-best 2:07.94. The time moves her to No. 3 on the Duquesne all-time list.

Sophomore Nadia Constantakis claimed gold in the pole vault, clearing 3.71 meters (12-2) on her second attempt.

First years Makayla Keck and Mary Grusky went 1-2 in the javelin. Keck captured gold with an early career-best 51.22 meters (168-0), improving her No. 2 standing on the Duquesne all-time list, while Grusky earned silver with a throw of 47.28 meters (155-1). Both recorded their top marks on their fourth attempts.

Freshman Melani Schmidt secured bronze in the 400 meters with a time of 56.00, while junior Caroline Garbe took bronze in the high jump, clearing 1.68 meters (5-6).

SCORERS
Dino Nadarevic was fourth in the discus with a throw of 49.37 meters (161-11), while Nick Payne finished seventh in the hammer throw at 54.45 meters (178-7) to add points for the men.

Rose Kuchera placed seventh in the long jump with a mark of 5.97 meters (19-7) to add to the women's point total.

ON TO SUNDAY
  • Anna Rorrer advanced to the finals of the 100-meter hurdles after winning her preliminary heat in 14.14. The final is scheduled for 12:15 p.m. on Sunday.
  • Duquesne will compete in 12 events on Sunday, beginning with the women's 4x100-meter relay at 11:55 a.m.
