Box Score ORLANDO, Fla. - Saint Joseph's came from behind to claim a 4-3 victory over Duquesne in the first round of the 2021 Atlantic 10 Men's Tennis Championship on Thursday morning at the United States Tennis Association (USTA) National Campus in Orlando. The Dukes close the season with a 5-6 record.
Duquesne earned the doubles point by claiming at pair of victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 flights as Alejando Rodriguez-Vidal and
Tamirlan Teberikov picked up a 6-1 triumph at No. 1 doubles before
Jin Dassanayake and
Kaipo Marshall sealed the point for the Dukes at the No. 3 position.
Marshall pushed the Duquesne lead to 2-0 with a 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 3 singles for the Dukes. The Hawks would then pick up three-straight wins at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 6 singles to gain a 3-2 advantage over Duquesne.
The Dukes countered when Dassanayake posted a hard-fought 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 triumph at No. 4 singles, knotting the match up at 3-3.
However, Saint Joseph's Johnnie Massart rallied for a 2-6, 7-6 (1), 7-6 (1) victory at No. 5 singles to clinch the match for the ninth-seeded Hawks, who will now advance to take on top-seeded VCU tomorrow.
