Box Score 3 PITTSBURGH - The Duquesne men's tennis team traveled south for its spring break, posting a 2-1 record with victories over UNC Greensboro (5-2) and North Carolina Central (4-1) while dropping a decision to Campbell. (1-6).
Dukes 5, UNC Greensboro 2
Duquesne came out strong in doubles competition, with
Dane Bendel and
Alejandro Rodriguez-Vidal winning at the No. 3 position and at No. 3 with seniors
Chris Corrao and
Drew Akins after saving three match points.
In singles play, UNCG quickly came back at No. 4, picking up a 6-1 6-2 win. However, the Dukes carried momentum from doubles, as
Alex Mascioli (No. 3),
Jared Isaacs (No. 5),
Dane Bendel (No. 6) each won in straight sets while
Chris Corrao (No. 1) earned a win in three sets.
Drew Akins lost a hard fought three-setter at No. 2 singles for Duquesne.
Campbell 6, Dukes 1
On a chilly day at Campbell, the Dukes fell 6-1 in what was their first match outdoors of the season. The Camels came out strong in doubles taking all three lines.
Duquesne's lone win came at No. 5 singles when
Jared Isaacs picked up a 6-3, 6-1 victory.
Dukes 4, North Carolina Central 1
In doubles play, Duquesne took care of business when No. 1 pair
Jared Isaacs and
Alex Mascioli made quick work of NCCU's top doubles team by a score of 6-0. The Dukes' No. 2 duo of
Chris Corrao and
Drew Akins clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 win.
Alex Mascioli and
Jared Isaacs both won in singles play in straight sets at No. 3 and No. 4.
Chris Corrao dropped his match, while
Drew Akins was still in play. NCCU forfeited its No. 6 match, which gave the 4-1 win for Duquesne to close out spring break play.
