CARNEGIE MELLON RECAP: The 2015 Fall season opened on the other side of Forbes Avenue when Duquesne visited Carnegie Mellon on Sept. 11-12. On Friday, the Dukes split doubles. The team of Corey Robinson and Harry Walshe were 7-5 winners. Dane Bendel and Andrew Ong were also winners, taking the set 6-3. In singles, Drew Akins won in 3-sets, 3-6 6-3 10-8. Tim Kane was also a with his excellent form from last season with a close 3-set winner4-6 6-3 10-6.
On Saturday, inclement weather moved the event inside to the Dukes' home venue at Alpha Tennis and Fitness of Pittsburgh. Adam Blasinsky and Chris Corrao won their doubles match 6-3, while the team of Akins/Kane and Robinson/Walshe took their matches 6-1 and 6-2, respectively. In singles, Robinson, Blasinsky, Corrao, Walshe, Kane and Ong all recorded wins.
BINGHAMTON RECAP: The second match of the year was the Binghamton Championships. Walshe led the Dukes by making it to the finals of the White Singles Drew. Ong and Akins also advanced into the 1st Round of the East bracket with singles wins. In the Black Singles Draw, France advanced into the 1st Round of the East bracket and Bendel won the Black Backdraw with three straight wins after falling in the opening match. Robinson advanced into the 1st Round of the East bracket in the Green Singles Drew. Carrao picked up a pair of wins in the backdraw. In doubles, Robinson and Walshe advanced to the championship in the Green Doubles Drew. France and Bendel finished in second place in the White Double Drew after going 2-1, defeating Colgate and Roberts Wesleyan.
UP NEXT: The Dukes will participate in the UT Rocket Invitational beginning Oct. 9th.
