MEN'S TENNIS UPDATE: The Duquesne men's tennis team is carrying the momentum from last season's semifinal finish at the Atlantic 10 Championship into the season after successful outings at the Binghamton Invitational and the Carnegie Mellon Invitational.
BINGHAMTON RECAP: The Dukes faced off against three teams - Binghamton, the defending America East champions, Buffalo, who was nationally ranked last season and Colgate in the two-day event. Rich Robbie, who played at #1 singles went 2-1 for the weekend. His only loss was a tough 3-6, 6-4, 10-5 battle against UB's Damien David, who finished last season ranked #19 in the ITA Northeast Region. Alex Aleman and Corey Robinson both went 3-0 in singles.
CMU RECAP: Last weekend, Duquesne headed down Forbes Avenue to play in the Carnegie Mellon Invitational. In addition to the host Tartans, the Dukes also faced players from Saint Francis. Five Dukes went perfect in singles - Robinson (2-0), Harry Walshe (3-0), Andrew Ong (3-0), Richard Sec (3-0) and Mehdi Mekaoui (3-0). In doubles the teams of Aleman and Adam Blasinsky were 4-0 and were Walshe and Tim Kane. The teams of Sec and Jimmy Xu and Mekaoui and Ong were also undefeated at 3-0.
UP NEXT: After three weeks off, the Dukes return to action on Oct. 11-12 in Toledo, Ohio for the UT Rocket Invitational.
