SATURDAY'S FINAL: Duquesne 5, Youngstown State 2
WEEKEND RECAP:The Duquesne men's tennis team won its fifth straight match after a pair of victories this weekend. The Dukes took out local Division III rival Carnegie Mellon 7-2. Since CMU was the home team, D-3 rules applied and each doubles match was counted as a point. Pete Carpenter and Alex Aleman won at #1 doubles position and Corey Robinson and Max Rubin took the #2 doubles slot to put Duquesne ahead 2-1 heading into singles. Duquesne took five of the six singles points, with Carpenter, Aleman, Corey Robinson, Max Rubin and Mehdi Mekaoui winning at #2 through #6 respectively. Last season, the Tartans defeated the Dukes 6-3.
The following day, Duquesne defeated Youngstown State 5-2. The Dukes jumped out by winning the doubles point - Robinson and Rubin winning at #2 and Matt Slamecka and Harry Walshe winning at #3. The Dukes dominated the singles, taking five of the six points, with the #2 through #6 spots victorious. Last season, the Penguins were 5-2 winners over the Dukes.
UP NEXT: The Dukes make a western New York road trip, playing Niagara on Friday and Buffalo on Saturday.
