Temple / Saint Joseph's

Duquesne's men's tennis team improved to 8-2 on the season and is now 3-0 against Atlantic 10 foes after defeating Temple, 4-3 and Saint Joseph's, 5-2 over the weekend in Philadelphia.

On Friday versus Temple, the Dukes surrendered the doubles point as Rich Robbie and Alex Aleman captured the lone DU win with an 8-3 showing at third doubles. The Red and Blue won four of the six singles matches though with Pete Carpenter clinching the win with a 6-7(1), 6-2, 6-3 triumph.

On Saturday at Saint Joseph's, Carpenter and Max Rubin grabbed the lone DU doubles win, but the Dukes took five of six singles matches.

"I'm very happy to come away with two conference wins this weekend," said head coach Rob Castille. "We beat a very good Temple team that is one of the best in the conference. My guys showed tremendous fight and heart, especially after losing the doubles point."

"I think we were a little fatigued mentally and physically the next day but we need to learn to play better after a big win,' he continued. Saint Joseph's is a solid team and showed up to play. We were fortunate to come away with a victory. We'll learn a lot from this weekend and will be better because of it."

The Red and Blue return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 22 as they host Youngstown State at 10:00 am and St. Francis (Pa.) at 1:3 pm at The Club Sport and Health in Monroeville.
