Preview: Dukes Set for Outdoor Opener at Charlotte

Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Duquesne University track and field teams open the 2026 outdoor season this weekend at the 49er Classic in Charlotte, N.C.

  • Schedule: Duquesne is slated for seven meets during the outdoor season. Following opening weekend, the Dukes return home for the Carnegie Mellon Invitational before traveling to George Mason (April 3–4) and Bucknell (April 11–12). The ECAC/IC4A Outdoor Championships at Rutgers (April 18–19) follow, with the Saint Francis Father Bede Invitational serving as the final tune-up ahead of the Atlantic 10 Championships, set for May 2–3 at George Mason.
  • Roster Breakdown: Both squads feature 16 freshmen and 15 sophomores. The men add 10 juniors and six seniors, while the women include seven juniors, seven seniors, and one graduate student.
  • Returning Dukes: Sophomore Louie Liberatore highlights the men's returners after becoming the first Duke to qualify for the NCAA Championships in javelin, earning silver at the A-10 Championships and bronze at IC4As. Christian Cupp enters his junior season after a silver medal in the long jump at IC4As and a runner-up finish in the decathlon at A-10s. Isaac Wetzel and Landon Lacey are among the returners from the A-10 bronze medal 4x400m relay that set a school record, while Sam de la Riva, Jadon Rahman, and Jack Barnhisel are back from the IC4A bronze medal 4x800m relay. On the women's side, sophomore Rose Kuchera and junior Mia Pierce lead the way after capturing ECAC gold medals last season. Kuchera also became Duquesne's first women's track and field All-American during the indoor season, earning second-team honors in the long jump. Pierce claimed ECAC gold and A-10 silver in discus. Junior Caroline Garbe returns after earning bronze at A-10s, while Madelyn Moretti, the 2024 A-10 Co-Most Outstanding Field Performer, enters her senior season after a silver medal in shot put.
  • In the Record Book: 16 Dukes enter the outdoor season ranked among the program's all-time top five, led by school record holders Louie Liberatore (javelin), Christian Cupp (decathlon), Nadia Constantakis (pole vault), Madelyn Moretti (shot put), and Rose Kuchera (triple jump).
  • Last Year: The Dukes placed fifth on the men's side at the Atlantic 10 Championships with five medals, their best finish since 2022. The women finished seventh with six medals. Duquesne also had one NCAA qualifier (Liberatore) and seven medalists at the ECAC/IC4A Championships across the two squads.
