Dukes prepped for final tune-up before Atlantic 10 Championships

Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Duquesne University indoor track and field team returns to Youngstown for the fourth time this season on Friday to compete in the YSU Last Chance Invitational.

  • Rose Kuchera highlighted Duquesne's performances at the Penn State Sykes & Sabock Invitational last Saturday, breaking a program record that had stood since 2014 with a first-place finish in the triple jump. She also posted the third-fastest 60-meter hurdles time in school history.
  • Sylvia Kashak ran the fastest 1,000-meter time ever recorded by a Duquesne freshman, while Anna Rorrer moved to No. 2 all-time in program history in the 60-meter hurdles.

  • Duquesne's pentathlon squad of Kuchera, Leatherman, Brozeski and Costa remained in the national top 10 in the latest USTFCCCA National Event Squad Rankings, checking in at No. 9.
  • The Dukes own eight marks ranked among the top five in the Atlantic 10 this season.
    • Kuchera leads the conference in the long jump (6.52 meters / 21-4.75) and pentathlon (3,694 points) while ranking second in the triple jump (12.44 meters / 40-9.75) and fifth in the 60-meter hurdles (8.73). Her long jump and triple jump marks both stand as program records.
    • Rorrer ranks fourth in the Atlantic 10 in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.71 following her record-book performance last week.
    • Garbe's season-best high jump clearance of 1.67 meters (5-5.75) and Constantakis' program-record pole vault of 3.73 meters (12-2.75) both rank fourth in the A-10.
    • Costa sits fifth in the A-10 in the long jump at 5.90 meters (19-4.25), the top mark among conference freshmen.
    • Kashak owns the top 1,000-meter time by an A-10 freshman this season and ranks fifth overall at 2:51.94.
    • Leatherman is fifth in the pentathlon with 3,467 points, recorded earlier this season at Youngstown State.
    • The 4x400-meter relay team of Schmidt, Costa, Leatherman and Bajgoric posted the fifth-fastest time in the conference last week at 3:50.27.
  • Kuchera's conference-leading long jump ranks sixth nationally in NCAA Division I and first in the Mid-Atlantic Region, while her pentathlon total sits eighth regionally and her program-record triple jump mark is ninth.
UP NEXT
  • Duquesne will be off next week before heading to Virginia Beach for the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships on Feb. 27–28.
