Dukes Close in Fifth at NKU Spring Fling

Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Duquesne University women's golf team continued its 2025 spring season this weekend, placing fifth at the NKU Spring Fling. The Dukes finished with a score of 654 over 36 holes at The Dunes of Sandridge Country Club in Vero Beach, Fla.
 
TEAM LEADERBOARD
St. John's garnered the team championship at the NKU Spring Fling, handing in a 617 to finish three strokes head of Seton Hall. Purdue Fort Wayne (623) earned third, followed by Loyola Chicago (624). The host Norse finished sixth, one stroke behind Duquesne, with Eastern Illinois (662) rounding out the field.
 
METROPOL
Freshman Sasha Petrochko continued her consistent play at the NKU Spring Fling this weekend, tying for ninth individually with Reese Clark of the Ramblers. Despite opening with an 83 in the first round, Petrochko shaved 10 strokes off her score in the second round, carding a 73 (+1), to rise 17 spots in the individual standings. In the second round, Petrochko registered four birdies, including two each on the front and back nine and three on a par five. Marta Aguilar of Seton Hall claimed the individual crown with a two-day score of 150 (+6), a stroke head of Xuan Khue Minh Doan (151) of St. John's.
 
THE LINEUP
Junior Lindsey Powanda finished the NKU Spring Fling at 163 (80, 83) to finish in a tie for 25th with Madison Haugen of Loyola Chicago, who was playing as an individual. Powanda recorded a birdie in each round and notched par on four holes over the course of the event. Freshman Katie Fodale closed at 167 (83, 84) to finish four strokes behind Powanda, while rookie Abby Slankster was just a stroke behind Fodale at 168, handing in an 84 after each round. Fordale carded three birdies over the course of 36 holes, while Slankster posted a pair. Also recording two birdies was freshman Katie Caryl, who closed at 176 (87, 89), while freshman Paige Meyers finished at 177 (90, 87).
 
UP NEXT
Instead of heading south the Dukes will head west for their next competition, traveling to Warren, Ohio, for the YSU Spring Invitational, which is set for Sunday, April 6, and Monday, April 7, at Avalon Lakes Golf Course.
