- Duquesne erased a four-goal deficit in the final 8:06, forcing OT before Mackenzie Leszczynski netted the game-winner on the opening possession, which was won by a Hanna Pawela draw control, in a 12-11 season-opening win at Akron.
- DU led 3-2 after the first quarter, then Akron took a 6-3 halftime lead. The Dukes responded with a 7-6 edge after three. The Zips scored five straight to begin the fourth quarter before the late Duquesne run.
- Mia Piocquidio's free-position goal at 6:38 sparked DU's comeback, followed by goals from Leszczynski, Chelsea Evans, and Corinne Webb to force OT.
- Emma Raines scored a career-high four goals, while Leszczynski, Piocquidio, and Evans each had two. Tristen Chang also scored.
- Gracin Emerson tallied a career-high five assists, tying for third-most in a single game in program history. Freshman Megan Marco added an assist.
- DU snapped a three-game losing streak in season openers with the win.

- Coyne's career features a 15-year stint at Notre Dame ... She led the Fighting Irish to six NCAA Tournament appearances, a national semifinal in 2006 and a Big East title in 2009.

- RMU opens the 2025 season Wednesday as the reigning MAC champions and preseason No. 1 pick.
- The Colonials won their third straight MAC title in 2024, defeating Detroit Mercy (14-10) in the final and Eastern Michigan (12-11) in the semifinal.
- RMU fell to Maryland, 17-1, in the 2024 NCAA Tournament first round.
- Leading scorer Jenna Irwin (37 goals) returns for her senior season, along with Chelsea Coleman (22 goals, 12 assists) and Isabella Teal (17 goals); RMU brings back three of seven double-digit scorers.
- Second-year head coach Courtney Grove, a 2007 Duquesne graduate, was an all-conference player who ranked in DU's top 10 in eight categories and finished with 93 goals and 25 assists.

They are joined by key contributors Emma Raines (18 goals, one assist) and Tristen Chang (12 goals, nine assists).
- On defense, senior Hanna Pawela headlines the unit after a record-breaking junior campaign. Pawela led all of Division I with 3.76 caused turnovers per game, setting a Duquesne single-season record with 64. She also ranked second nationally in ground balls per game (4.12).
- Junior Casey McBride was another defensive standout in 2024, finishing top-15 nationally and second in the A-10 in caused turnovers (2.06 per game).
