Washington, D.C. – Duquesne's
Gracin Emerson and
Madison Welch were recognized in the Atlantic 10 Women's Lacrosse End-of-Season Awards, announced Wednesday by the conference office. Emerson earned a spot on the All-Academic Team, while Welch was named to the All-Rookie Team.
A sociology major with a 3.88 grade-point average, Emerson capped a historic junior campaign by rewriting the Duquesne record book. The East Lansing, Michigan native set a program single-season record with 66 assists — 22 more than the previous mark — while leading the nation in assists per game (4.40), the second-highest single-season average in NCAA Division I history.
Emerson also paced the Atlantic 10 with 34 assists in conference play (3.78 per game) and tied the program's single-game record twice with seven assists, becoming one of just four Division I players this season with multiple seven-assist performances. She recorded multiple assists in every game, including five or more in six contests, and added 11 goals for 77 total points, ranking among the top 15 nationally in points per game.
Duquesne has now landed a player on the All-Academic Team in seven straight seasons.
Welch made an immediate impact as a freshman, finishing with 96 draw controls — the second-most in a single season in program history. Ranked second in the A-10 and among the top 30 nationally in draw controls per game (6.40), while placing second in the conference during league play with 54 draw controls (6.0 per game).
The first-year out of Pittsford, New York, set the Duquesne single-game record for draw controls twice, including a 15-draw performance against George Mason that earned Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honors.
