PITTSBURGH – Duquesne freshman midfielder
Mia Piocquidio has been named the first
Atlantic 10 Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week for the 2025 season, the conference office announced Monday afternoon.
A Beaver County, Pennsylvania, native, Piocquidio scored twice in her collegiate debut, helping lead the Dukes to a 12-11 overtime victory at Akron.
Piocquidio recorded her first career goal at the 9:52 mark of the third quarter, slicing through the middle of the Zips' defense to collect a pass from fellow freshman
Megan Marco before firing a shot into the net to tie the game at six.
She later converted a free-position goal with 6:38 remaining in regulation, sparking Duquesne's late rally to erase a four-goal deficit in the fourth quarter, force overtime, and secure the win.
Piocquidio finished the game with two goals on two shots, going 1-for-1 on free-position attempts, while also charting one ground ball and one caused turnover.
Duquesne will host Robert Morris on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. for its home opener at Rooney Field. Admission is free.
