PREVIEW: Track and Field at CMU Last Chance Meet on Thursday

PITTSBURGH – The Duquesne University men's and women's track and field teams kick off a busy week of competition with a short trip to the Carnegie Mellon University Last Chance Meet this Thursday.

LAST TIME OUT
The women's team set two school records at the Colonial Relays, hosted by William & Mary on March 31 and April 1. Junior Alyssa Willis broke her own top time in the 100m dash with an 11.94, the first ever sub-12 second time in program history, and the 4x1500m relay team including Liv Wilson, Ryley Schwalm, Kathryn Saum, and Laura Ehrenberger took down a 21-year-old record by more than 10 seconds, crossing the line in 19:27.87. Hannah Seitzinger raced to a first-place finish in the 800m invitational with a 2:07.76, moving into second place on the all-time top-times list, while Sadie Wetzel won the high jump invitational clearing 1.67m, her second straight meet at the top of the HJ podium.
 
Gabe Sanders marked 14.02m to win the open shot put, while Joe Klanchar placed second in the javelin throw (45.69), and Zack Toth took third in the 5000m race (14:44.82) to lead the men's team at the Colonial Relays. Matt DeMatteo moved into third all-time at DU in the 400m hurdles, crossing the line in 54.40, and Anthony Litrenta earned team athlete of the week with a PR of 30:50.24 in his first-ever 10,000m race.
 
MORETTI EARNS A-10 WEEKLY HONOR
Freshman Madelyn Moretti was named the A-10 Co-Rookie of the Week after a stellar opening weekend with a 13.98m (45-10 ½) shot put finishing runner-up at the Charlotte 49er Classic, the second-best mark in DU history in her first outdoor meet, then she charted a 37.41m (121-10) in discus placing eighth. Moretti has since upped her second-best mark to 14.06m when she won the CMU Invite on March 24.
