YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The Duquesne University indoor track & field team opened the 2023-24 season on Friday at the Youngstown State Icebreaker.
The Dukes had 17 athletes competing across nine events with top-10 individual finishes in seven events.
SPRINTS
Senior
Alyssa Willis took sixth in the 60m with a 7.79 after qualifying for the finals with a 7.73 in the prelims. Willis later set a new personal best in the 400m finishing in 58.80.
Amy Allen placed 4th in the 400m with a 56.93.
Junior
Kaylin Cousin was right behind Willis with a 58.88 in the 400m coming in 13th. She also tied her PR crossing the line in 8.34 seconds in the 60m qualifiers.
MID-DISTANCE
A pair of freshman,
Cydney Blahovec (2:23.05) and
Reagan Ryen (2:24.86) took fourth and sixth places, respectively, in their first-ever collegiate 800m race.
Mara Whalen represented the Dukes in the mile and placed fifth with a 5:26.55.
JUMPS
Kristen Lavallee won the unseeded high jump, as Duquesne took the first three spots on the leaderboard. The sophomore from Berwyn, Pa. cleared 1.57m (5' - 1.75") for the top spot of 20 jumpers. Freshmen
Alana Boiardi and
Caroline Garbe both charted a 1.52m height (4' - 11.75") in second and third.
THROWS
Madelyn Moretti started her sophomore season strong, placing third in the shot put with a long of 13.46m (44' - 2.00").Â
Senior
Ezra Johnson-Mills paced three Dukes in the weight throw with a 15.40m (50' - 6.25") toss.
MULTIS OPEN AT BUCKNELL
The Dukes tookÂ
Jamelah Carswell and
Eva Leatherman to compete in the pentathlon at
Bucknell's Bison Opener to begin the season. Carswell upped her PR and fourth-place score in the DU record book to 3389 finishing third in the orange division, while Leatherman was sixth in the blue division at 2630.
UP NEXT
Duquesne will be back in action after the calendar turns with a meet at Kent State on January 13, the start of five straight competition weekends.
