Virginia Beach, Va. – Freshman
Sylvia Kashak set a Duquesne program record and earned a silver medal in the 1,000 meters to lead the Dukes on the final day of the Atlantic 10 Indoor Track & Field Championships. Duquesne finished seventh with 50 team points.
Kashak clocked a school-record 2:47.00, finishing just 0.14 seconds behind the champion. Her time broke the previous program record set by Haley Pisarcik in 2014 and marked the first sub-2:50 performance in school history.
Kashak's 2:47.00 also surpassed the previous Atlantic 10 Indoor Championship meet record, as each of this season's top four finishers eclipsed the former mark.
The freshman from Jefferson Hills, Pa., capped a historic rookie indoor season with the silver medal and school record. She won three meets during the season and moved into the program's all-time top five in the 800 meters and mile in addition to her record-setting 1,000 meter performance.
After running a personal-best 2:51.74 in Friday's preliminaries to qualify, Kashak improved her time by more than four seconds in Saturday's final. She accounted for eight team points in the 1,000m and also helped the 4x800-meter relay (
Cydney Blahovec,
Reagan Ryen,
Kate Saum, Kashak) place fourth in 9:12.03 to add five more points.
