Brozeski’s Bronze Leads Dukes on Day One

Virginia Beach, Va. – Freshman Brandi Brozeski claimed a bronze medal in the pentathlon to lead Duquesne on the opening day of the Atlantic 10 Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Virginia Beach Sports Center. Brozeski totaled 3,526 points, highlighted by a personal-best 1.64 meters (5 feet, 4.5 inches) in the high jump. She added marks of 5.34 meters (17-6.25) in the long jump and 10.50 meters (34-5.5) in the shot put, along with a 9.00 in the 60-meter hurdles and a 2:36.24 in the 800 meters.

Duquesne has now earned a medal in the pentathlon at five consecutive Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships. Brandi's sister Emily Brozeski won the A-10 pentathlon gold medal in 2023 and silver in 2022.

POINT SCORERS
Freshman Isabella Costa (3,367 points) and senior Eva Leatherman (3,289) finished sixth and seventh, respectively, to add team points in the pentathlon.

Costa won the 800 meters within the pentathlon in a season-best 2:29.19. She also recorded a season-best 1.64 meters (5-4.5) in the high jump and a season-high 8.10 meters (26-7.0) in the shot put.

Leatherman posted a personal-best 9.40 in the 60-meter hurdles.

Rose Kuchera added three team points in the long jump with a sixth-place finish at 5.79 meters (19-0).

FINALS QUALIFIERS
Sylvia Kashak won her heat of the 1,000 meters in 2:51.74, advancing to Saturday's final at 1:15 p.m. The time moves her to No. 2 on Duquesne's all-time performance list.

Kuchera also qualified for the 60-meter hurdles final after running 8.73 in the preliminaries. The final is scheduled for Saturday at 11:40 a.m.

PERSONAL BESTS
Junior Reagan Ryen ran a career-best 2:17.17 to place ninth in the 800-meter preliminaries.

Senior Sophia Trevenen improved her personal best by more than 20 seconds, finishing the 5,000 meters in 18:28.86.

First years Kyndra Seddon (weight throw, 12.20 meters / 40-0.5), Seava Cresta (60-meter prelim, 7.91), Macie Steiner (500-meter prelim, 1:22.06) and Kendall Lucas (800-meter prelim, 2:18.29) each recorded season-best performances.
