PITTSBURGH - Duquesne third-year sophomore
Maxi Hopfer (Styria, Austria) has been named to the
United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Forwards to Watch List it was announced today.
Hopfer, a 2021 First Team All-Atlantic 10 performer, was one of four A-10 forwards named to the 30-man list.
A United Soccer Coaches Second Team All-Southeast Region team pick last season, Hopfer ranked among the NCAA Top 20 in shots on goal per game (t5th at 2.00), shots per game (6th at 4.28), total points (t15th with 28), goals per game (t20th at 0.61) and points per game (t20th at 1.56) in 2021.
The Austria native led the Atlantic 10 in shots and shots on goal per game, and his 11 goals ranked second in the conference. His goal total along with his 28 points were both the fourth-most by a Duke in a single season. Hopfer's 77 shots were third-most on the DU all-time list (seven shy of the school record).
Duquesne, which returns eight starters from last year's Atlantic 10 Championship runner-up squad, opens its 28th season at Michigan on Thursday, August 25.
