Pittsburgh, Pa. – The Duquesne University men's soccer team concluded its 2025 season Saturday, dropping a 1-0 decision to George Mason at Rooney Field. The Dukes close with an overall record of 8-6-2 (.562), including a 2-6 (.333) mark in the Atlantic 10.
POINTS OF EMPHASIS
Scoreless at halftime, the Patriots were able to garner the lone goal of the contest just over two minutes after the break. On a set piece, Martim Sereno lifted a ball into the box that Leo Lemoine was able to put in the back of the net off a header at 47:09. It was one of 13 shots on the night for George Mason (7-5-3 | 4-2-2 Atlantic 10), four of which came on net. The Dukes finished with 10 shots, including three on goal, but were never able to come up with the equalizer.
QUOTABLE
"We just have to move forward, keep driving and stick to the process," head coach
Chase Brooks said. "Mason is an excellent team. A legit NCAA Tournament team, beating some of the teams they've beaten this year. We need to hold our heads really high. We talked about leaving tonight with no regrets, and I think we were able to do that. The guys literally gave everything. We went toe-to-toe with one of the top teams in the country, in my opinion, and ultimately we've done that most of the year. It's now just about getting over the hump, finding the back of the net and putting those W's in place."
SENIOR SALUTE
Prior to the game, Duquesne honored its latest senior class, which included
Sam Bennett,
Diego Chavez,
Ashton Jell and
Grant McIntosh. Jell and McIntosh logged a full 90 minutes for the Dukes, while Chavez registered three saves against George Mason and concluded the year with 45 saves, a 1.13 goals against average and a .726 save percentage. Jell collected a goal and two assists in his final season on the Bluff, while McIntosh added three assists in his final campaign. Duquesne is slated to return each of its top seven scorers from 2025, including forward
Jaxon Ervin, who paced the Dukes in scoring with 12 points thanks to five goals and two assists.
QUOTABLE
"I want to thank the senior class, administrators and everyone who has been helpful in getting us everything we've needed this year in order to compete," Brooks said. "Ultimately the Atlantic 10 is extremely difficult. It just is. You play eight games and only eight teams out of 13 get in the postseason. That's the worst of any conference in the nation in terms of percentage. At some point, with a conference that is strong as this one, we know we have to learn and grow and we have to capitalize on our moments. You can not drop points in this conference. How do we take this into the offseason? We graduate four seniors that gave us everything, and I appreciate that from them, but ultimately we have a great group coming back that has to take a step forward."
