Aids South Fork United's Efforts in Colombia

PITTSBURGH - It was 'out with the old' as Duquesne men's soccer emptied the closet in teaming with New York-based South Fork United to provide older, unused gear to the youth of San Andres, Colombia in February.

South Fork United is an organization founded by DU soccer alum Greg Fink (1998-02) designed to provide advanced international youth soccer players with the opportunity to compete at a higher level, while at the same time giving back to the game on a global scale.

Fink, an education major who went on to become a New York City police officer, visited campus over the summer to pick up donations from the men's soccer program and joined forces with the NYPD Men's and Women's Soccer Team to personally deliver the goods to Colombia.

The foundation was able to conduct a number of soccer clinics in Bogota and Manizales as well as San Andres, while at the same time providing much-needed groceries and Dukes gear to children attending the events.

Fink, the co-founder and Executive Director of South Fork United has teamed with his brother Doug, who also played for the Dukes from 1996-99, to make international goodwill tours to multiple countries over the past 15 years.

This is the first time the DU soccer program was able to support South Fork United. It is a partnership that both hope to grow in the future.

South Fork United is a 501 c3 nonprofit organization.
