Dukes Top Saint Francis U for Third Consecutive Win

Box Score PITTSBURGH - The Duquesne men's tennis team improved to 3-0 on the season with a 6-1 win over Saint Francis U on Friday afternoon at Alpha Tennis and Fitness of Pittsburgh. The Dukes were able to pick up the doubles point via sweep before taking five of the six singles matches on the day. This marks Duquesne's first 3-0 start since the 2014-15 campaign. 

Doubles
Alex Mascioli and Kaipo Marshall gave the Dukes a solid start with a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles, while Jin Dassanayake and Bode Vance clinched the doubles point for Duquesne with a 6-4 victory at No. 3.  Alejandro Rodriguez-Vidal and Tamirlan Teberikov then completed the sweep by holding on for a 6-4 win at the top doubles spot.

Singles
Marshall was first off the court in singles, giving the Dukes a 6-3, 6-1 victory at the third flight. 

Mascioli then gave the Dukes a 3-0 match lead with a 6-4, 6-2 win at the first flight. Rodriguez-Vidal clinched the match for the Dukes with a tough 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles.

"I was happy with the way I was striking groundstrokes today," said Duquesne Senior Alejandro Rodriguez-Vidal. "I was able to really feel the ball and stick to my strategy." 

Dassanayake secured a 6-4, 6-1 triumph at the fifth singles spot, before Vance took an equally dominant 6-1, 6-3, victory at the sixth flight. 

In the final match of the day, Teberikov fell in a hard-fought 5-7, 7-5, 1-0(4) match at the fourth flight.

"After a solid start in doubles, I was extremely proud of our competitive fire and strength up and down the singles lineup," said Duquesne Director of Tennis Vanessa Steiner. "We were able to display our ability to both dictate points with court positioning and grind out long rallies. The team was pleased with the result and is looking forward to our next match."
