PREVIEW: @DuqWBB at Davidson

PITTSBURGH – In a battle of the top two offensive teams during conference play, the Duquesne women's basketball team looks to start a new winning streak on the road against Davidson on Sunday afternoon. The opening tip between the Dukes (16-8, 6-5) and Wildcats (13-11, 6-5) at Belk Arena is set for a 1:00 p.m. start.

THE SERIES

  • Duquesne has earned wins in six of the eight previous meetings with Davidson.
  • The Wildcats earned a 62-47 win last season at the Palumbo Center, outscoring Duquesne 15-5 in the third quarter to pull off the victory.
  • The Dukes are 2-0 at Belk Arena all time.  

LAST TIME OUT

  • Four scorers reached double-figures, but the Duquesne women's basketball team could not fend off late Richmond momentum, falling to the Spiders, 67-64 in overtime on Wednesday night at the Robbins Center. The Dukes' (16-8, 6-5) four-game winning streak was snapped, while the Spiders (12-13, 5-6) have won three of its last four and five of its last seven contests.
  • Paige Cannon led the squad in both scoring and rebounding in a double-double performance, with 11 points and 11 rebounds. The double-double was the sixth of her career and second this season.

STAT CHECK

  • Despite not making a 3-pointer against Richmond, Libby Bazelak still ranks among the most efficient shooters from long distance this season, ranking fifth nationally in 3-point field goal efficiency (46.3 percent).
  • The Dukes offense continues to be the best in the Atlantic 10 in scoring, averaging 69.1 points per game.
  • Duquesne's 41.5 field goal percentage ranks second in the conference, while the Dukes' 34.9 clip from long range is best in the A-10.
  • The Dukes also lead the league in assists, distributing 15.58 dimes per contest.
  • Head Coach Dan Burt seeks his 150th career win on Sunday, compiling a career record of 149-75. He would be the fastest in school history to accomplish the feat.
  • Over its last seven games, Duquesne has buckled down defensively, allowing just 55.9 points per game in the span. The Dukes have forced opponents to shoot 35.9 percent from the field and 26.9 percent from 3-point range since Jan. 18. Duquesne is 5-2 in those games, outscoring the opponents by an average margin of 7.9 points per game.  
  • In the Dukes' eight losses this season, five have come by five points or less. Only Temple, Oklahoma State and Dayton have defeated the Dukes by six points or more this season.
A LOOK AT THE STANDINGS
  • As the regular season winds down, Duquesne (6-5) is tied with Saint Louis and Davidson for fourth in the Atlantic 10 standings with five games remaining. The top two seeds earn a first round bye of the Atlantic 10 Championships, while seeds 3 to 8 will host 9 to 14 before heading to Dayton for the second round through the championship game
SCOUTING DAVIDSON
  • After starting 5-0 in Atlantic 10 play, the Wildcats have fallen in five of its last six and four consecutive overall.    
  • In Atlantic 10 play, Duquesne (64.2 ppg) and Davidson (63.9 ppg) average the most points per game during the conference slate.
  • Leading scorer and six-time A-10 Freshman of the Week, Suzi-Rose Deegan (15.1 ppg) did not appear in Thursday's matchup against Fordham. The Wildcats' second leading scorer, Sarah Donovan, has yet to make an appearance in conference play.
  • The Wildcats have allowed opponents to shoot just 27.9 percent from 3-point land this season, a A-10 best mark which ranks 40th nationally.
  • Deegan is tied for fourth best in the A-10 with 15.9 points per game and seventh in rebounds per game (7.9).
