PREVIEW: @DuqWBB at Cornell

PITTSBURGH – Coming off of a 79-74 win over Toledo on Saturday, the Duquesne women's basketball team looks to extend its win streak to eight on Tuesday night, when the Dukes head to Ithaca, N.Y. to battle Cornell at Newman Arena. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m.

THE SERIES: Duquesne and Cornell will meet for the fifth time, as the Dukes have won the four previous meetings in the series. Both teams met for home-and-homes in the 2004 and 2008-09, as Duquesne has defeated the Big Red by an average score of 77.8 to 55. Overall, the Dukes are 12-3 against the Ivy League all-time.

LAST TIME OUT: Duquesne held off a late fourth quarter scoring surge from Toledo, as the Dukes knocked down 7-of-8 free throws in the final minute to down the Rockets, 79-74, on Saturday night at La Roche University. Amanda Kalin posted a career-best 20 points (7-11 FG, 2-3 3PT) in the winning effort. Libby Bazelak added 17 points, and filled the stat-sheet with game-highs of seven rebounds and six assists. Three different Dukes registered nine points, as Cannon, Laia Solé and Nina Aho were each a point away from posting double-figure totals. Cannon grabbed six rebounds off the glass as the Dukes led the Rockets 31-29 in the category.

ROAD WARRIORS: Winners of five-consecutive on the road, the Dukes are among the top teams in the nation when playing on an opponent's floor. Duquesne's five road wins is tied for second in Division I with UConn (5-0) for the most road wins this season. Loyola Chicago (6-0) and Cleveland State (6-1) lead the nation with six road wins each.  The Dukes are averaging 77.7 points per game on the road, while holding the opposition to 69 points.

THE STREAK: After falling to Kent State and Temple to begin the season, the Dukes have reeled off seven consecutive victories against Manhattan, Iona, Lafayette, Pitt, Central Connecticut State, Akron and Toledo. The Dukes have sported a balanced offense over the past six games with six different players averaging between 8.7 points to 13.1 points per contest. The Dukes have defeated its foes by an average of 15.6 points per game. The Dukes have held the opposition to shoot just 38 percent from the field and 27.3 percent from long range in that span.

STAT CHECK:  The Dukes currently lead the A-10 in assists per game (16.0), field goal percentage (43.9 percent), free throw attempts (192) and scoring offense (76.9). Libby Bazelak ranks 21st in the country and second in the A-10 in 3-point field goal percentage (48.8), while Nina Aho is 34th in assist to turnover ratio (2.55). Amanda Kalin checks in at 60th in assist to turnover ratio (2.22), 46th in free throw attempts (49) and 71st in free throws made (33).

BALANCE: The Dukes have sported a balanced offense all season, as seven different Dukes average at least 7.6 points per game. Five different Dukes have recorded 20-plus points in a game this season, as Angela Staffileno (21 pts at Manhattan), Libby Bazelak (21 pts at Manhattan) Laia Solé (21 pts vs. CCCU), and Amanda Kalin (20 pts vs. Toledo) all reached the 20-point milestone for career-highs.

SCOUTING CORNELL: The Big Red enter the matchup with a 5-3 record, falling to undefeated Binghamton, 59-56 in their most recent contest last Thursday. Prior to that, Cornell won three straight against NJIT, Delaware State and UMass Lowell. The Big Red excel off the glass, ranking second nationally in rebound margin (15.9), but struggle maintaining possession, raking 317th in turnovers per game (20.6). Laura Bagwell-Katalinich leads the team in scoring (16.8 ppg) and rebounding (8.6 rpg) and has posted four double-doubles this season.
