Ben Fredrickson Named Assistant Men's Soccer Coach

PITTSBURGH - Head men's soccer coach Chase Brooks has announced the hiring of Ben Fredrickson as assistant coach:

Ben Fredrickson, a former member of the coaching staff at Spring Hill College in Mobile, Ala., is in his first season as an assistant at Duquesne. In his three seasons at Spring Hill, Fredrickson was involved in all facets of the program with an emphasis on team training, recruiting, video analysis and scouting. He also served as director of the Badger Soccer Academy and assisted in the implementation of individual training that helped the Division II Badgers to a school-best 12-3 record in 2017.

Prior to Spring Hill, the Wellington, New Zealand native spent a season at the University at Buffalo, where he helped develop the school's first ever Major League Soccer draft pick.

Prior to coaching in the United States, Fredrickson was the head coach of St. Patrick's College as well as the academy coach at the Kaizen Football Academy in Wellington. During his time as a head coach he helped numerous players be discovered by U.S. universities and had two players go on to receive professional contracts.

Fredrickson, a 2014 graduate of Regis University in Denver, helped the Rangers to three NCAA Division II tournament appearances (2010, 2012, & 2013) including the Sweet 16 in 2012 and the Elite 8 in 2013. The 2012 team finished the regular season undefeated, earning a No. 1 overall national ranking. Fredrickson also played for the Southwest Florida Adrenaline in the USL Premier Development League in 2013.

In New Zealand, Fredrickson was a member of Team Wellington FC, trained with the Wellington Phoenix of the Australian A-League and represented his country for the New Zealand Secondary Schools national team.

After completing his bachelor's degree in health and exercise science from Regis in May 2014 with merit, Fredrickson earned his master's in leadership and ethics from Spring Hill. Fredrickson holds both the National and Advanced National Coaching Licenses from the United Soccer Coaches along with an E license from the United States Soccer Federation. In addition, Fredrickson is in the process of completing the United Soccer Coaches Premier license under its new format and is scheduled to complete this in 2018.
