Close One in Kent

Box Score KENT, Ohio - Chassidy Omogrosso and Julijana Vojinovic combined for 46 points in Duquesne's 77-72 victory at Kent State on Wednesday night.
 
Amanda Kalin led all players with eight rebounds and added 10 points for the Dukes (3-3).
 
Megan Carter scored 17 for the Golden Flashes (3-3).
 
Vojinovic came out of the gates by scoring 11 of Duquesne first 14 points in the first 4 minutes of play. The Dukes would build a nine point halfway through the 1st quarter, taking a 16-7 advantage. Conversely, the Dukes would miss their final five field goal attempts of the quarter as KSU got within a bucket of tying at 17-15.
 
Kent State opened on a 14-2 and assembled a 10 point lead 29-19 at the midway point of the 2nd quarter. Duquesne responded by scoring the next nine points, cutting the lead to a point at 2:41. Omogrosso's free throw was the only scoring the Dukes would get as they took a 34-29 deficit into halftime.
 
Trailing by eight points with 8:07 remaining in the 3rd quarter, Omogrosso would score six of the Dukes next eight points to make the score 40-38 in favor of the Golden Flashes. Kadri-Ann Lass closed out the quarter scoring with a layup that got the Dukes within a bucket of tying at 55-53.
 
Omogrosso's free throws opened the 4th quarter scoring and tied the game before Libby Bazelak's jumper put the Dukes ahead 57-55. Carter answered with a jumper, but it was Paige Cannon's 3-pointer with 6:42 remaining that gave Duquesne the lead for good at 60-57. The teams battled down the stretch and KSU got within two of tying with 25 seconds remaining, but Omogrosso's hit three foul shots in the final 17 seconds to seal the victory.

  • Kalin tied her career rebound high – she also pulled down eight boards at Toledo on 11/18
  • Wednesday marks the third time Vojinovic and Omogrosso have both scored 20 points in a game
