PREVIEW: @DuqMSoccer at St. Bonaventure

Dukes and Bonnies meet Saturday at 7 pm in key A-10 clash

Duquesne (4-7-3, 2-2-2), riding a three-match unbeaten streak, heads to Olean, N.Y. for its final road game of the season at St. Bonaventure's (6-8-1, 2-4) Marra Athletics Complex on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. The Dukes enter the battle with the Bonnies with seven points in their past three matches (3-0 win at George Mason, 0-0 draw at Saint Louis and a 3-1 home win over #23 Rhode Island last Saturday). DU and SBU are battling for a spot in the Atlantic 10 Championship. The top eight finishers qualify (see latest A-10 standings here). DU has been idle since the URI victory - the progam's first over a nationally-ranked team.

THE SERIES VS. ST. BONAVENTURE
  • Duquesne leads the overall series 13-7-4. In matches at SBU, the series in knotted at 4-4-3.
  • DU won four in a row before tying the last game at St. Bonaventure (0-0 in 2OT) on Oct. 5, 2016.
  • Last year, the Bonnies posted their first victory over the Dukes since 2008, 1-0 in 2OT on Rooney Field.
  • Five of the past eight matches between the two have gone to overtime, with four decided in double overtime.
  • Duquesne is 1-4-1 on the road (1-1-1 in A-10 play) and St. Bonaventure is 3-3-1 at home (1-2-0 in A-10) this season.
  • The Bonnies snapped a five-match losing streak with a 2-0 nonconference home win over Howard on Wednesday.

QUICK HITS
  • DU is 2-0-1 in its past three matches: a 3-0 home win over George Mason, a 0-0 draw at Saint Louis and a 3-1 win over #23 Rhode Island. The win at Mason ended a 14-match road winless streak, the tie at SLU was DU's first point earned in 11 all-time matches with the Billikens and the win over URI was the program's first over a nationally ranked team.
  • Senior midfielder Noah Mehta (two goals vs. URI) and junior goalkeeper Robbie McKelvey were named A-10 Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week on Monday. It was the first time in school history that the Dukes had two players of the week in the same week.
  • The Dukes, with McKelvey at keeper, have allowed just one goal (a penalty kick by Rhode Island) in their past three matches. McKelvey has posted 10 saves over that span. McKelvey was in goal for shutouts of both Mason and SLU.
  • The Dukes have outshot their conference opponents 87-57, including 38-21 on goal, in six matches.
  • Duquesne ranked eighth nationally in corner kicks per game through Wednesday (currently at 6.71). DU had 16 corners - one shy of the school record - in its 3-0 win over Detroit Mercy on Sept. 2. The Dukes have had nine or more corners in a game five times.
  • DU ranks 20th nationally (2nd in A-10) in shots per game at 14.93 and 32nd (2nd in A-10) in shots on goal per game at 6.29.
  • The young Dukes have started at least six freshmen in all 14 matches this season. DU has started seven freshmen five times and 12 total freshmen have played. Manel Busquets (Spain), Nathan Dossantos (Canada), Rob Dymond (New Zealand), Moritz Kappelsberger (Germany), Domenic Nascimben (Australia), Kendall Newman, Kurtis Orrson, Gylfi Stefansson (Iceland) and Eric Zech (Germany) have all started at least once. Of the nine freshmen who have started, seven are international players.
  • Overall, DU has 10 international players, including returners seniors Noah Mehta (Canada) and Olav Hovstad (Norway) and freshman Denis Celik (Germany).
  • The Dukes have 15 first-year players on the 2018 roster including 14 freshmen and junior Pitt transfer M Alec Anselmo.
  • Noah Mehta, who had two first-half goals in the 3-1 win over #23 Rhode Island, leads the team with 12 points. His four goals are tied with freshman Manel Busquets for team high.
  • Mehta and Busquets lead the team with four and three assists respectively.
  • DU's 20 goals this season have come from 10 players: Manel Busquets (4), Noah Mehta (4), Rob Dymond (3), Ian Larson (3), Zion Beaton (1), Nathan Dossantos (1), Zach Hall (1), Moritz Kappelsberger (1), Gylfi Stefansson (1) and Austin Stout (1).
  • Larson (19 points, 7 goals) and junior Zach Hall (16 points, 6 goals) are DU's top current career point-getters and goal scorers.
  • Busquets leads the team in shots with 29, Mehta is second with 25 and Larson third with 24.
  • Mehta leads the team in career games with 59. Larson is second with 53.
