UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Duquesne men's cross country team competed at the Penn State National Open on Friday morning hosted by the Nittany Lions at the Blue-White Course. The Dukes posted a 10th-place finish at the meet.
Ninth-ranked Oklahoma State won the event with followed by Penn State second and Villanova third.
Senior Rico Galassi (Dickson City, Pa./Holy Cross) led Duquesne with a 19th-place time of 25:56. Junior Cordon Louco (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) placed 26th with a mark of 26:05 while freshman Mark Provenzo (Export, Pa./Franklin Regional) finished 53rd at 26:35.
Sophomore Jake Heinauer (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) placed 60th at 26:40 and classmate Jeff Van Kooten (Sewickley, Pa./Central Catholic) rounded out the top-five for the Dukes with a 71st-place finish at 27:06.
Duquesne is back in action at the 2017 Atlantic 10 Championship on Saturday, Oct. 28 in Leesburg, Va. The race is slated for a 10 a.m. start. The Dukes were picked to finish second at the meet in the league's preseason coaches poll.
