CLINTON, Pa. – The Duquesne men's and women's cross country teams combined for 13 personal bests as both squads finished fourth at the Robert Morris Colonial Invitational Friday at Youthtowne Fields.
The men were paced by a pair of top-10 finishes. Sophomore
Ben Shields ran 24:36.2 to place fourth, improving his previous 8k best by more than 30 seconds. Senior
Nathaniel Woshner followed in sixth with a career-best 24:39.9, trimming over 25 seconds from his previous mark.
All five scorers for the Dukes ran personal bests. Sophomore
Sam Freedman was 19th in 25:03.6, more than 1:40 faster than his freshman year, while classmate
Anthony Ciecierski finished 38th in 25:24.9.
Mason Stewart completed the scoring in 39th at 25:26.1, as Duquesne scored 96 points in fourth place. Senior
Sam de la Riva, sophomore
Jacob Bonnar and junior
Maxwell Hamilton also set career-best 8k times, giving the men eight PRs overall.
Freshman
Lauren Ciuca led the women in her first career 6k, placing 17th in 21:56.2. Freshman
Sylvia Kashak was 23rd in 22:12.3, and senior
Kate Saum placed 26th in 22:15.6, giving the Dukes three runners in the top 30. Seniors
Sophia Trevenen (34th in 22:30.9) and sophomore
Ava Brewster (37th in 22:33.5) rounded out the scoring with personal-best times.
Duquesne totaled 122 points, edging West Virginia on a 4-1 tie-break for fourth place. The women recorded five PRs, with juniors
Cydney Blahovec,
Emma Andreen and
Reagan Ryen adding career-best marks.
