BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Duquesne men's and women's cross country teams raced at the 51st annual Paul Short Run Friday at Lehigh University. The Dukes had 20 student-athletes compete, joining more than 1,000 runners at one of the nation's largest meets.

The men placed 10th of 38 teams in the Brown race and 64th overall among 158 squads. Sophomore Ben Shields led the way with a 16th-place Brown finish, clocking a personal-best 24:51.9 to place 186th overall out of 1,383 competitors. Senior Nathaniel Woshner (25:33.9) followed in 47th, with sophomore Anthony Ciecierski (25:42.5), freshman Liam Kirkpatrick (26:07.6) and senior Sam de la Riva (26:17.7) rounding out the scoring five. Eight of the Dukes' nine finishers placed in the top half of the overall field.

On the women's side, freshman Sylvia Kashak paced the Dukes with a 77th-place Brown finish in 22:30.3 in the 6K. Duquesne placed 20th of 39 teams in the division and 77th of 158 overall, with senior Kate Saum (22:41.5), senior Sophia Trevenen (22:57.9), freshman Kendall Lucas (22:58.8 – PR) and sophomore Ava Brewster (23:11.0) completing the scoring. All five finished in the top half of the 328-runner Brown race.

The Dukes return to action next Saturday, Oct. 11, at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational in Clinton, Pa.
