QUICK HITS
This is the 22nd season for the Duquesne men's soccer program.
The Invitational will mark the second and third home games of the season for the Dukes.
DU is 101-54-17 all-time on Rooney Field.
Duquesne is 9-3 in non-conference home games under fourth-year head coach Chase Brooks.
DU is 1-0 at home this season with a 2-1 OT win over Saint Francis in the season opener on Aug. 26.
The Dukes rallied from a 1-0 first-half deficit with Olav Hovstad netting the game-winner in the 99th minute in the win over SFU.
The Dukes followed the SFU game with a 1-0 loss at then-No. 17 Kentucky on August 30. DU nearly came back from a 3-0 halftime deficit in a 3-2 defeat at Wright State on Labor Day. The Dukes got goals from Zach Hall in the 61st minute and Fredrik Borenstein in the 73rd, but could not find the back of the net again before time expired at WSU.
Duquesne's first three opponents: Saint Francis U (2nd in Northeast), nationally-ranked Kentucky (1st in Conference USA) and Wright State (T1st in Horizon) were all picked first or second in their conference's preseason poll.
Wofford, which competes in the Southern Conference, enters the Duquesne Invitational with a 3-1 record. The Terriers own a 2-0 win over Atlantic 10 member Davidson, as well as victories over Presbyterian (3-2) and Gardner-Webb (2-1).
The Dukes are outscoring opponents 4-1 in the second half and overtime through three games.
Balance has been the early-season theme for the Dukes who have five players with two points each. DU's four goals have come from four players: Chris Alescio, Olav Hovstad, Zach Hall and Fredrik Borenstein.
Freshman Ryan Landry leads the team with a pair of assists, including a feed on Olav Hovstad's game-winner in the win over Saint Francis U.
Junior midfielder Fredrik Borenstein, DU's top returning point-getter with seven last season, leads the team with seven career goals. Senior Chris Alescio ranks second on the team with six career goals.
Duquesne returns six goal scorers from last season in Borenstein (2), Bryan Fegley (2), Bendik Hellstroem (1), Peace Drevitch (1), Diego Vieira (1) and Ian Larson (1). The fivesome accounted for eight of DU's 23 goals.
