Duquesne (8-3-4, 3-1-2), which has been idle since last Saturday's 2-0 win at Saint Joseph's, heads to Ohio to face Dayton (6-8-2, 2-3-1) on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. The Flyers, like the Dukes, have been idle since Saturday. Duquesne enters the weekend second in the tightly-bunched A-10 standings with 11 points. Dayton is 10th with seven points. This is Senior Day for UD.
THE SERIES
Dayton leads the series 11-7, including a 6-1 advantage in matches played in Dayton. The Flyers have won the past seven meetings, including a 2-1 win in Pittsburgh last season. UD also defeated the Dukes, 3-1, in the first round of last year's A-10 Championship. Duquesne's lone win at Dayton came on Oct. 31, 2003 (3-1).
QUICK HITS
- This is the 22nd season for the Duquesne men's soccer program.
- The Dukes are 2-3-2 on the road, including a 1-1-1 mark in Atlantic 10 play. Dayton is 5-2 at home (2-1 in A-10).
- The Dukes began the week with an NCAA RPI of 70. The only Atlantic 10 school with a lower number is Saint Louis at No. 38. George Washington (98) is the only other A-10 school with an RPI under 100.
- Duquesne is ranked 9th in the Midwest in this week's NSCAA Regional Poll. It is the fourth consecutive week the Dukes have been ranked (No. 10, No. 7 & No. 8 in the three previous weeks).
- DU's five overtime wins (5-0-4) are the most in school history. The 2002 Atlantic 10 Championship finalist Dukes (13-3-5) held the old mark at 4-0-5. Duquesne's nine overtime games have tied the school record set in '02.
- Thirteen of Duquesne's 15 games have been decided by one (or fewer) goals.
- DU has limited 13 of its 15 opponents to one or fewer goals.
- Duquesne has posted nine shutouts, all of which have come it their past 11 games. The nine shutouts are tied for third-most in school history.
- The Dukes, with senior Evan Kozlowski in goal, posted a school record seven consecutive shutouts from Sept. 11 through Oct. 8. The shutout streak covered 750 minutes. The previous school record for consecutive shutouts was five set in 2000. Duquesne outshot the seven opponents during the streak 106-64.
- Six Duquesne's eight wins have come in dramatic fashion, including five on Rooney Field:
* Aug. 26 vs. Saint Francis U (100') - Olav Hovstad scored in the 100th minute to give the Dukes a 2-1 come-from-behind OT win
* Sept. 9 vs. Wofford (89') - DU scored twice in the final 5:04 - with Fredrik Borenstein netting the game-winner in 89th minute - of a 2-1 win
* Sept. 11 vs. Canisius (100') - Austin Stout scored with five seconds left in the first overtime to give Duquesne a 1-0 win
* Sept. 20 at Cleveland State (93') - Freshman Jallah Acqui scored in the 93rd minute in a 1-0 win
* Oct. 8 vs. George Washington (95') - Zach Hall scores DU's first goal in four games in the 95th minute to defeat GW
* Oct. 15 vs. VCU (93') - Diego Vieira scores his first goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 93rd minute.
- The Dukes followed the season-opening Saint Francis game with a 1-0 loss at then-No. 17 Kentucky. DU nearly came back from a 3-0 halftime deficit in a 3-2 defeat at Wright State on Labor Day. The Dukes got goals from Zach Hall in the 61st minute and Fredrik Borenstein in the 73rd, but could not find the back of the net again before time expired. DU went eight matches without a loss following the near comeback at WSU.
- Duquesne's first three opponents: Saint Francis U (2nd in Northeast), then-No. 17 Kentucky (1st in Conference USA) and Wright State (T1st in Horizon) were all picked first or second in their conference's preseason poll.
- The Dukes are outscoring opponents 15-6 in the second half and overtime.
- Balance has been the theme for the Dukes who have 11 players with two or more points, and none with more than nine. DU's 15 goals have come from nine players: Fredrik Borenstein (3), Ian Larson (2), Zach Hall (2), Austin Stout (2), Chris Alescio, Olav Hovstad, Jallah Acqui, Diego Vieira and Ryan Landry (plus one own goal).
- DU goalkeeper Evan Kozlowski, who put together an MVP performance at the Sept. 9 & 11 Duquesne Invitational, has posted nine shutouts (seven of which came in a row from Sept. 11 through Oct. 8). The redshirt senior has posted a total of 49 saves on the season.
- Freshman Ryan Landry is tied for the team with three assists, including a feed on Olav Hovstad's game-winner in the season-opening win over Saint Francis U.
- Junior midfielder Fredrik Borenstein, DU's top returning point-getter with seven last season, leads the team with three goals and three assists for nine points. The Norway native also leads the team in career goals with nine. Senior Chris Alescio ranks second on the team with six career goals, including one this season.
- Freshman Jallah Acqui was named A-10 co-Rookie of the Week on Sept. 26. The Upper Darby, Pa. native was honored for his game-winning goal in the 93rd minute of DU's 1-0 win at Cleveland State on Sept. 20.
- Freshman Zach Hall (co-Rookie) and Kozlowski (Defensive) both earned A-10 honors for the week of October 3-9. Hall netted the game-winner in the 95th minute vs. GW (1-0) and Kozlowski stopped eight shots in a 0-0 tie at St. Bonaventure and the 1-0 win over the Colonials. It was the first time since 2003 that Duquesne had two players earn A-10 mention in the same week.
- Ryan Landry was named co-Rookie of the Week on Oct. 24 following a three-point week that included his first career goal, at Saint Joseph's.
- @DuqMSoccer earned the NSCAA Team Academic Award for exemplary performance in the classroom as a team during the 2015-16 academic year. It is the 17th time in the past 18 years that Duquesne men's soccer has earned the honor. Duquesne has has been recognized more than any other Atlantic 10 program since the award was instituted in 1996.
