PITTSBURGH - April Robinson scored 20 points while recording her 500th career assist and Deva'Nyar Workman posted a double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds in her first start of the season as the Duquesne women's basketball team ended St. Bonaventure's 16-game winning streak after a 74-62 victory on Saturday afternoon at the Palumbo Center.
The Dukes improve to 17-2 overall and 5-1 in Atlantic 10 Conference play while the Bonnies fall to 17-3 overall and 6-1 in the A-10.
Kadri-Ann Lass added 16 points and seven rebounds for Duquesne, who have defeated St. Bonaventure in five of their last six meetings. Robinson recorded a game-high seven assists and Workman's six assists was a new career-high.
SBU's Katie Healy scored 20 points with Nyla Rueter and Miranda Drummond adding 13 and 12 points respectively.
After falling behind 7-2 early in the 1st quarter, the Dukes answered with a 13-0 run over the next 3:01 -- making three 3-pointers during the run, forcing a Bonnies timeout. Amadea Szamosi would hit a jumper on Duquesne's next possession giving them their first double-digit lead at 17-7. SBU would answer with an 11-3 run to get within a basket at 20-18 with 2:04 remaining. The Dukes scored the last six points of the quarter to take a 26-18 advantage.
The Dukes started the 2nd quarter on a 15-3 run, capped by Angela Staffileno's layup to go ahead by 20 points at 41-21. Emily Michael would make a pair of 3-pointers, including the final basket of the half to cut the Dukes' lead to 45-30.
St. Bonaventure's defense held Duquesne to eight points on 5-of-13 shooting in the 3rd period. The Bonnies cut the deficit to 11 points at 53-42 heading into the final quarter.
Healy's jumper at the 8:44 mark of the 4th quarter got SBU within 10 points at 56-46, but this would be as close as the Bonnies would get as the Dukes would score the next seven points to go ahead by 17 with 7:08 remaining. Mckenna Maycock's jumper at the buzzer closed out the scoring.
The Dukes tied a season-high by shooting 47.1 percent from 3-point range. Duquesne outrebounded St. Bonaventure 41-28, including 13-4 on the offensive end.
Duquesne heads to Virginia for a two-game road trip beginning Jan. 28th at Richmond and concluding Jan. 31st at VCU.
