Duquesne completes the regular season this weekend with a trip to New York City to face Fordham on Friday night, followed by the home finale vs. Rhode Island on Sunday at 1:00. The Rhody match will mark the last home appearance for eight Dukes seniors.
Fordham (6-8-2, 3-3-1) and Duquesne (8-6-2, 3-3-0) enter the weekend sixth and seventh respectively in the Atlantic 10. The top eight teams qualify for the Atlantic 10 Championship to be held in Richmond on Nov. 13-16. Here are the current A-10 standings.
.
QUICK HITS
Duquesne is 7-1 at home and 1-5-2 on the road. Fordham is 4-2 at home.
The Dukes are 1-5-2 on the road, despite being outscored by just two goals away from home (9-7). DU is 1-2 in A-10 road matches with a 5-0 win at St. Bonaventure, a 1-0 loss at then-No. 18 Saint Louis and a 1-0 loss at Davidson.
Fordham's season has been characterized by low-scoring games. The Rams have not given up more than two goals in a match this season, however, they have been shut out nine times and have score more than two goals twice (3-1 win over Manhattan and 3-1 win at La Salle).
DU is 3-4 in A-10 road games under second-year head coach Chase Brooks.
DU has surrendered two or fewer goals in 15 of 16 matches this season. West Virginia (3-0 win on Oct. 5 in Morgantown) is the only team to score more than two on the Dukes.
Six-seven senior Kadeem Pantophlet leads the Dukes with 17 points and 7 goals. Pantophlet, who scored twice in the Dukes last outing - a 3-1 home win over La Salle on Sunday, made the rare Division I switch from basketball to soccer prior to last season. In his last appearance at Fordham, Pantophlet scored 13 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in an 82-75 loss to the Rams at Rose Hill Gym. Pantophlet, who also leads the team with 45 shots (22 on goal), ranks sixth on DU's all-time game-winning goals list with seven despite playing just two seasons.
Freshman Fredrik Borenstein and senior Austin Lange are tied for second on the Dukes with four goals each. The Dukes are 4-0 when Borenstein scores.
First-year sophomore Dorian Kouame, who is coming off an Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week performance last weekend, leads the team with eight assists. His assist total ranks 11th nationally and is one away from tying the DU single-season record shared by Derek (2002) and Travis (2006) MacKenzie.
Twelve players have scored at least once for the Dukes.
Eighteen of DU's 31 goals have come after the half.
Sixteen players have seen action in 10 or more matches.
Duquesne is ranked 18th nationally in scoring offense (1.94) through Wednesday's games. DU leads all A-10 schools in scoring offense, points per game (5.50), total goals (31) and total points (88).
Duquesne is +7 on corner kicks (78-71), Fordham is +9 (88-79).
NEXT UP: The Dukes return home to face Rhode Island on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. It will be the final home match for seniors Nick Anderson, Nick DiSomma, Matt Essig, Martin Fiemawhle, Austin Lange, Kadeem Pantophlet, Karter Sell and Filip Velasevic.
