Dukes Split a Pair of Matches with A-10 Opponents

March 30, 2011

Charlotte / Richmond

Duquesne's men's tennis team played a pair of weekend matches in the D.C./Virginia area and came home with a split. The Dukes lost to Charlotte, 6-1 on March 25 and defeated Richmond, 5-2 on March 26.

Steve Herchko went 2-0 in singles play for the Red and Blue while Aram Abgaryan, Pete Carpenter, Max Rubin and Mikhael Rasner all went 1-1.

"We played two very good conference opponents this weekend," said head coach Rob Castille. "This was our first time playing outside since the fall and we are still battling injuries so I was happy we were able to come home with at least one win. I don't think we played our best on Friday and against a solid team like Charlotte, you can't afford to not be at your best."

Castille added, "The team showed tremendous heart and fight on Saturday against Richmond and I was pleased with the improved play and felt we competed much better. Hopefully the weather cooperates and we are able to get outside as much as possible these next two and a half weeks so we are well prepared for A-10s."

The Dukes return to action on Friday, April 1 as they host Temple at 1:00 pm at The Club Sport and Health in Monroeville.
