PITTSBURGH - The Duquesne women's basketball team fell to 19-4 overall and 6-2 in the Atlantic 10 Conference after its 61-52 loss to Temple on Saturday afternoon.
Samantha Pollino scored a team-high 22 points for the Dukes on 7-of-9 shooting. Vanessa Abel added 15 points and dished out a game-high five assists.
Shey Peddy scored a game-high 26 points for Temple who won its tenth straight game. The Owls improve to 17-6 overall and remain undefeated in the conference play with a perfect 8-0 record.
With the Dukes up 9-4 at the 13:52 mark of the first half, Peddy scored seven straight points in 64 seconds to give TU an 11-9 lead.
The Dukes would be held without a field goal for the last 6:16 of the low-scoring first as the Owls took a 25-20 lead into halftime.
After Peddy opened up the second half scoring with a 3-pointer, DU went on a 9-0 run to take a 29-28 advantage.
The lead would switch hands three times - the last coming on a Peddy layup that was part of a 13-5 run that put Temple up 44-37 with 8:06 to play.
The Dukes would make it a two possession game seven times down the stretch, but could not get any closer than four points.
With 1:05 left, a Pollino jumper made the score 54-49, but Peddy found a wide open Brittany Lewis for an uncontested layup seven seconds later.
Pollino's second 3-pointer of the game with three seconds left closed out the scoring.
Duquesne stays at home as they welcome Saint Louis to Palumbo on Wednesday afternoon. The tipoff time will be at 5:00 P.M.
GAME NOTES - With her foul shot at the 16:14 mark of the first half, Pollino became just the ninth player to score 1,300 career points
- Abel tied a season-high with three 3-pointers and set a career-high with two blocks
- Pollino played a season-high 36 minutes and hit a season-best 78 percent (7-of-9) shots from the floor
- The Dukes recorded season-lows with 52 points and 16 field goals
