Four Duquesne University men's soccer players received a total of seven Atlantic 10 post-season awards as voted on by the league's coaches and sports information directors. Junior forward Joshua Patterson (Bowie, Md./Bowie) was named the Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Year.
In addition, Patterson, sophomore forward Simon Gomez (Manizales, Colombia/Alonso) and junior defender Adam Clement (Erie, Pa./McDowell) were all named First Team All-Conference while Gomez, Patterson and redshirt junior midfielder Carter Poe (Chesterland, Ohio/West Geauga) were named Academic All-Conference.
Patterson, a two-time Atlantic 10 Player of the Week as well as a College Soccer News National Team of the Week honoree, was second on the Dukes and in the Atlantic 10 in scoring with 21 points on nine goals and three assists. He led the Atlantic 10 in conference scoring as nineteen of his 21 points came in A-10 play. Patterson has a 3.69 cumulative grade point average as a sports marketing major.
Clement provided stellar defense for the Dukes at his center back position and had a breakout year offensively as well. He was third on the team in scoring with career highs of three goals, four assists and 10 points.
Gomez led the Dukes and the Atlantic 10 in overall scoring with 26 points on nine goals and eight assists. A 2010 A-10 First Team All-Conference choice, this marks the second season in a row he has led DU in scoring after posting 22 points on eight goals and six assists as a freshman. Gomez is an athletic training major with a 3.78 cumulative gpa.
Poe boasts a cumulative gpa of 3.93 as an elementary education major. He played in 17 contests this season, making 15 starts and equaled a career-high with two assists this season giving him five on his career.
The Dukes finished the 2011 season with a 7-9-2 overall record and a 4-4-1 slate in Atlantic 10 play.
