PITTSBURGH - The Atlantic 10 second leading scorer Dana Mitchell scored a game-high 20 points and Megan Van Tatenhove added 15 as St. Bonaventure defeated the Duquesne women's basketball team 70-46 on Senior Day.
Alex Gensler scored 10 points for the Dukes who dropped its third game in a row to fall to 18-9, 8-4 A-10.
SBU, who made 16-of-27 shots and outscored DU 49-23 in the second half, won its third game in a row to improve to 20-9, 8-5 A-10.
DU came out on fire, as senior Eve Pyle, in her first start of the year, drained a 3-pointer on the game's first shot to build an early 10-2 lead at the 15:40 mark of the first half.
With Duquesne up 16-10, the Bonnies went on a 10-2 run to take a 20-18 lead after back-to-back baskets Van Tatenhove at the 4:24 mark.
The Dukes held the Bonnies to just a foul shot the rest of the half as a layup by Jaclyn Babe with 38 seconds to go put DU up 23-21 going into halftime.
Momentum continued for Duquesne with Vanessa Abel and Gensler hit a pair of 3-pointers to increase its lead to six points at 29-23 in the first 46 seconds of the second half.
However, SBU started heating up as a Jessica Jenkins 3-pointer started a 15-2 run putting the Bonnies up 40-32. Gensler cut the deficit to five points after a 3-pointer with 11:35 remaining, but St. Bonaventure would pull away.
DU would score only three field goals the rest of the way while being outscored 30-11. The end result was a 70-46 loss - the largest for the Dukes this season.
Duquesne will try to end its three-game losing streak on Wednesday night when they host La Salle (7-20, 2-10 A-10) in the final regular season home game of the year. Tipoff is at 7:00 p.m. The A-10 regular season comes to a close next Sunday at Saint Joseph's at 2:00 p.m.
