MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. - Wumi Agunbiade recorded her second consecutive double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds and Alex Gensler scored a game-high 17 points as the Duquesne women's basketball team improved to 3-1 on the season after a 61-34 victory over Robert Morris (0-5) on Sunday afternoon.
The 34 points allowed sets a record for the Dukes against a Division I team. Their previous best was set on March 1, 2008 in a 62-35 victory over La Salle.
The Dukes led from beginning-to-end for the second straight game as they assisted on 18 of their 25 field goals and grabbed a season-high 51 rebounds.
A 3-pointer by Vanessa Abel gave DU a commanding 12 point lead midway through the first half at 20-8. Duquesne would see a first half lead as high as 16 points twice - the first coming at the 4:15 mark after Gensler converted an Agunbiade steal into a basket followed by a Kelly Britcher 3-pointer to close out the first half scoring at 37-21.
DU would see its lead as high as 28 points at the 3:20 mark of the second half on an Agunbiade put back which made the score 39-31 and at with 2:33 left on a Britcher layup 30 second later making the score 61-33.
"Offensively, we were able to move the ball against the zone and get comfortable against the zone," said head coach Suzie McConnell-Serio. "We had production inside and outside and had a balance scoring attack which was the difference in the game."
Duquesne scored 32 points in the paint and had 17 second chance points to zero for the Colonials.
"Our defense did a good job of communicating which helped us execute the way we wanted to," added McConnell-Serio.
The Dukes held RMU to 13 total field goals and forced 26 turnovers and out rebounded the Colonials 11.
Up next for Duquesne will be the fourth of six straight road games when they visit the University of Akron on Wednesday. Tipoff against the Zips will be at 7:00 p.m.
