PITTSBURGH - Robert Morris' Angela Pace scored a game-high 22 points and Monica Jones and Mary Durojaye each recorded a double-double to lead the Colonials over Duquesne 69-61 on Tuesday night at the Palumbo Center.
Keri Pryor scored a season-best 20 points for the Dukes who fall to 6-2 on the season.
The Dukes started off 1-for-10 from the floor and only scored two points in the first seven minutes of the game.
Duquesne took their first lead of the game, 19-18, at the 3:51 mark of the first half after Alex Gensler converted a pair of foul shots resulting from an RMU bench technical.
Pryor capped a 13-4 run with a 3-pointer at with 3:35 left in the half to make the score 22-18. However, the Colonials came back with a 9-0 run and ended the half with a 27-22 lead.
DU quickly tied the score on a jumper by Samantha Pollino and a 3-pointer by Pryor to open up the second half.
With the score deadlocked at 27-27, the game would feature six ties and five lead changes until a Vega Gimeno-Martinez layup with 6:11 remaining in the game gave RMU a lead they would not rescind.
A Pryor jumper with 32 seconds left to cut the deficit to four points was as close as the Dukes would get. Kristine Silaraja and Pace converted foul shots down the stretch as the Colonials finished the game with the 69-61 victory.
"We had a lot of shots, but we just couldn't knock them down tonight. Unfortunately, we weren't successful getting offensive rebounds," said head coach Suzie McConnell-Serio.
Robert Morris out-rebounded Duquesne 44-24, 13-6 on the offensive side.
"Rebounding is key. We gave them second chance points and didn't give ourselves chances for second and third chance points. They are a very good team," added McConnell-Serio.
Next up for the Dukes is defending Patriot League champion Lehigh (5-1) on Mon. Dec. 7. Tipoff is at 7:00 p.m.
