Duquesne's men's soccer team, which recently won a 4-0 exhibition decision, will open the 2008 season on Friday, Aug. 29 as it faces Binghamton at 5:00 pm in the first match of the WVU Classic.
On Friday, Aug. 22, the Dukes downed Seton Hill, 4-0 on Rooney Field. Sophomore Stefan Lundberg scored twice for the Dukes while sophomores Nicco Barton and Ben Horner also found the back of the net. Gathering assists were senior Bryan Matthews and junior Matthew Groves. Eight freshmen saw action in the contest for the Dukes.
"I was very pleased with the team's performance," third-year head coach Jake Ouimet said.
The Dukes defeated Binghamton, 3-1 last season in the Richmond Invitational and were the only team to score three goals against them all season. The Bearcats finished the season at 14-6 and lost to Vermont in the conference semifinals.
On Sunday, the Red and Blue will take on host West Virginia at 2:00 pm. The game against the 15th-ranked Mountaineers will be televised live exclusively on West Virginia PBS in cooperation with Mountaineer Sports Network.
Duquesne opens its home schedule on Thursday, Sept. 4 as the Dukes host cross-town foe Pitt at 7:30 on Rooney Field.
