PITTSBURGH - Samantha Pollino scored a career-high 22 points and Rechel Frederick added a game-high 23 points as the Duquesne women's basketball team rolled to a 93-49 win over Cornell Sunday afternoon.
Kristi Little added 14 points and recorded game-bests six assists and five steals for the Dukes who improve to 2-0 on the young season. Samantha Thompson drained all three of her 3-point attempts, a career-best, finishing with nine points. Amanda Peck recorded a game-best eight rebounds.
Lauren Benson scored a team-high 11 points for Cornell (0-1).
With the Big Red leading by a point midway through the first half, a Pollino layup started a 31-10 run that gave the Dukes a 47-27 lead at halftime. DU took advantage of 18 first half Cornell turnovers and converted them into 30 points while shooting 19-38 (.500) from the floor.
The Duquesne lead would get as high as 52 points with under seven minutes remaining in regulation.
The Dukes also shot 50 percent from the floor in the second half and finished the game 37-74 from the field.
Pollino, whose pervious career-high was 18 points in last season's opener versus Robert Morris, finished the game 9-of-10 from the field in just 23 minutes.
Duquesne takes to the road Wednesday night as they visit Mount St. Mary's. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
