Dukes Ink Two Harriers in Late Signing Period

Duquesne University men's cross country coach Jim Lear recently announced the signings of two additional student-athletes to National Letters of Intent to run for Duquesne in 2007. Michael Stolar (Erie, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep) and Scott Van Kooten (Sewickley, Pa./Central Catholic) will be the newest Dukes. The duo will join Erik Anderson (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley), Mark Bucklaw (Mayfield, Pa./Lakeland) and Travis Dean (Johnstown, Pa./Westmont Hilltop) who signed during the early signing period.

Stolar is a four-time PIAA State qualifier and two-time district champion in cross country. He placed fifth at the 2006 PIAA AA Cross Country Championship and third in the 3200 meter run at the 2006 PIAA Outdoor Track Championship.

Van Kooten was recently crowned the WPIAL champion in the 3200 meter run at the 2007 championship. He also finished sixth at the 2006 PIAA AAA Cross Country Championship and placed second in the 3000 meter run at the 2007 PIAA Indoor Track & Field Championship.

The Dukes finished second at the 2006 Atlantic 10 Cross Country Championship.
