Dukes Take Bonnies 66-49 on Senior Day

The Duquesne (11-16, 6-10) women's basketball team took a 66-49 win over visiting St. Bonaventure (9-18, 3-13) Sunday afternoon in the regular season finale. Junior Loui Hall (Masontown, Pa./Albert Gallatin) came off the bench to lead the game with 24 points (15 in the second half) and nine rebounds followed by 12 points, five rebounds and three steals from senior Nicole Sinclair (Indiana, Pa./Indiana). Hall, who had started each game prior, sat the opening call to allow senior post Maria Stankevich (St. Petersburg, Russia) the start in her final home game. Junior Brittany Warren (Finleyville, Pa./Ringgold) added 11 points. The Bonnies were led by Priscilla Edwards' 13 points and an 11 point, eight rebound effort from Ashley Edwards.

St. Bonaventure opened play with a 5-0 lead before Gosia Flaga's (Sokolow Podlaski, Poland) three-pointer started 10-4 run giving the Dukes a 10-9 edge at 13:44. Two ties and lead changes followed before Hall's jumper at 8:53 gave Duquesne a 16-14 edge. The Dukes hit six unanswered afterward and took their largest lead of the half, 25-16, on a three point goal by freshman Kristi Little (Altoona, Pa./Altoona). The Bonnies would not get closer than a five-point reach afterward with the last being 31-26 at the 2:28 mark. Duquesne held a 37-29 lead at the intermission.

The Bonnies twice got within a six-point reach of a lead early in the second frame before a three-point goal by sophomore Jocelyn Chandler (Uniontown, Pa./Uniontown) gave the Dukes their first double-digit lead at 45-34 with 15:21 to go. SBU hit a lay-up at 14:11 for a 45-36 reach, its last single-digit deficit. St. Bonnies would not score for the next 5:49 before Ashley Edwards three-point play at 8:21. Hall hit the 10 of the Dukes; 12 points in a late 12-3 run which ended with Sinclair sinking two free throws for a 63-42 lead at 4:05 - their first 20-point edge of the game. The Dukes went on to take the 66-49 final.

Duquesne shot .467 (21-45) from the field, .500 (7-14) from behind the arc and .773 (17-22) from the free throw line. Rebounds were equal at 34 each. Duquesne swiped 16 steals led by Carmen Bruce (Pittsburgh, Pa./Schenley) and Little with four each.

DU secured the #10 seed with the win and will face #7 UMass Friday at 4:00 pm in the A-10 Tournament at SJU's Alumni Fieldhouse in Philadelphia.
